The Perfect Parka

As the nights draw in and the daily walk to the train station bites with the cold - the focus turns onto jackets.

In the cold and damp of the north west nothing quite compares to the joy of a Parka!

From childhood memories of walking to school with your snorkel up to adult dreams of climbing Everest. It is am item of clothing that can evoke so many emotions.

So here are four of the best at every price point.

Clothes for 2013

It is that time of year when my mind starts planning the purchases for 2013. I have got to bring in another budget cut, partly due to economic reasons and also I am going to put 50% of my budget into clothes for work.

So I have final piece to buy from AW12/13 and that is a new Nigel Cabourn 4-way roll neck.

For spring summer 2013 I am going to be investing in the a few labels;

Comme des Garcons - couple of tops
CP Company - new jacket and overshirt
Raf Simons - a couple of tops and maybe a jacket
Nigel Cabourn - not sure yet but I do want a new shirt and I might get a summer cameraman or parka
Stone Island - shirts, an overshirt and maybe a jacket
Woolrich - shirts

I will probably pick up a few pieces from Folk, Church's blue suede loafers and a new pair of Tretorn pumps.

Now the work-clothing investments is an interesting new direction for me. It has been on my mind for a couple of years now, some of it is age and also another part is the desire to separate my work-life attire from my personal-life.

I think I am going to go for a slim suit in blues, grey and black.  This will be teamed up with white shirts, narrow ties, simple black shoes, blue tote & briefcase and most likely jackets with a more casual influence (CP, Stone Island and Cabourn).

I am going to have to bit more research into the suits so I am starting off with DSquared2 and Costume National to dip my toe into the water - a look I really liked when I was in Milan.

AW12/13 Wardrobe Purchases

I have been giving a lot of thought to my pieces for this AW, like most people I am cutting back on the clothes budget but I still want to add to my wardrobe.

I am addicted to jackets and there is nothing I can do about this, so I have already picked up a couple of Nigel Cabourn jackets from BasilicaDuo - a crazy Mallory and oilcloth aircraft jacket.

I need a new tote bag and I am thinking about a blue Woolrich Woolen Mills one, this way I can switch between green and blue depending on my mood.

Now I need a few pairs of boots this winter and I am probably going to get a pair of Loake Dovedale boots and a pair of Tretorn high tops (my last pair were destroyed at the Stone Roses gig in Manchester).

I am only getting one jumper a Cabourn 4 way roll neck in cream, I lost my last one.

Shirting is a bit more difficult as I really do need to get a few more shirts but I tend to struggle finding ones that I like. I normally get excited about unusual cuts, pockets, use of fabric and this restricts my choice, but I have my eye on a few Woolrich and Cabourn pieces.

Finally those other bits that I need to get and will pick up along the way.  Well I do need to invest in some waistcoats and I am watching a few by ACNE, Cabourn and RAF Simons.  I will probably pick up a new hat and my gut is telling me a Woolrich one to cover the ears and I could do with a new navy scarf that will probably be Cabourn.

I have just spotted the Stone Island ipad covers and I have a feeling ones of these will drop into my Christmas box.

Finally the wildcard jacket ... as I am addicted and I have a feeling that a Woolrich parka might find it's way into my collection.

Brands Investing In For AW12

Looking at the AW12/13 collections I am looking to invest in the following brands.

Woolrich
Junya Watanabe MAN
Nigel Cabourn
Maison Martin Margiela
Raf Simons
Stone Island
YMC
Folk
Han Kjobenhavn
Engineered Garments
Adidas
Paraboot
Bass

I am going to be investing in a Malory jacket by Nigel Cabourn for sure and possibly a Stone Island Ice Jacket.

Some good thick woolen jumpers and sweatshirts are needed because I think it is going to be a cold winter.

I also really need to build up my shirts and tee shirts because I have neglected them over the last year.

From a colour perspective I am looking at investing in bright blue, grey, orange, and white - carrying over the dark blue and green from last winter.

Woolrich Bright Gold Byrd Artic Parka

It might seem a bit strange to be thinking about winter jackets as we finally get some sun in the UK but this Woolrich parka from Coggles is worth the investment.
